Hi Art Lovers!

Romanticism: The 3 most important points of romanticism are: imagination, emotion and freedom.

This movement took place in the 19th century, and it emphasizes humans and nature. It makes the characters one with the elements around them.

Most romanticist painting takes place around landscapes, religion and myth.

Symbolism took place in the 19th century, it began mostly in France and Belgium.

The idea of symbolism is to use the subject of the painting to underlying another meaning.

This movement is a response to Realism and Impressionism, it was used not only in art but also in poetry, music and novel.

This movement focuses on the various senses of man. At the centre of this movement, we have an important representation of religion with the notions of sin and love. But also an important part of mythological events which comes as the main subject in symbolism.

Impressionism: Artists from this movement rebelled against the characteristics of other painting movements. They showed in their paintings the world as they saw it. They play with the lights and horizons to show their world. To do that they used mostly light colours and represent mostly landscapes but also portraits.

Neo-Impressionism come from this movement the biggest difference between those two movements is the way they used colours and brushes.

Monet was the king of impressionism, he paints mostly in Paris. His lily's artworks are wonderful, you can find them at the Orangerie in the Tuileries. You can also visit his house where he gets most of his inspiration.

Monet and Van Gogh used those technics.
